Types of ADU’s

The specific type of ADU you choose to build will depend on factors such as zoning regulations, the layout of your property, and your budget.

Detached ADU

A detached ADU is a separate building on the same property as the main residence. It is completely separate from the main house and has its own entrance, kitchen, and bathroom.

Attached ADU

An attached ADU is a separate living space that is connected to the main residence, often through a shared wall. It can be built on top of or beneath the main house.

Interior ADU

An interior ADU is a separate living space within the main residence, such as a basement or attic conversion.

Junior ADU

These are smaller ADUs, typically under 500 square feet, that are built within the existing space of the primary residence, such as converting a portion of a basement or garage.

Container ADU

One of the main advantages of a container ADU is its cost-effectiveness. Shipping containers are relatively inexpensive and can be repurposed for housing, reducing the cost of materials and labor. They are also durable and resistant to harsh weather conditions, making them ideal for use as a permanent structure.

Garage ADU

A garage ADU is converted from an existing garage or built as a new structure on the property. It can be attached or detached from the main house.
